With Shelly being the first unlockable character in the game, it’s perhaps no surprise that she is one of the most (if not actually the most) used characters in Brawl Stars. Her fantastic ability to play both the roles of a Ganker and a main DPS makes her an excellent choice for a team clash action — though she obviously didn’t earn the sobriquet of a showdown master for nothing; Shelly is, in fact, a showdown master… But how well does she fare in matchups, exactly?
Below is a guide for matchups using Shelly.
Shelly vs. Shelly
It’s a given. Shelly fighting herself will only be as good as it gets — depending on how skilled each Brawl Stars player is in utilizing Shelly’s special abilities to her advantage. Usually, the player who gets to successfully charge Shelly’s super first is also first to gain advantage, but the player who is capable of using his ammos wisely is the one who’s likely to win.
With that said, the best way to counter Shelly is to be constantly on the run — running off in unpredictable directions to make sure that her full damage shotgun is nowhere within range. Dealing to the path she is likely to take while dodging her is also another great measure to take, along with making sure that she does not get to charge her ultimate at all.
Shelly vs. Colt
Colt is considered one of the best counters against Shelly, which means extra caution must be taken when dealing with this brawler. Players who know exactly how to use this brawler are likely wise enough to shoot at the bushes most of the time, but exposing Shelly in an open area isn’t a wise thing to do, either.
The best thing to do for players, it appears, is to try and pull a guerilla warfare technique — ambush, hide ‘n gank him every chance that they get. But this, too, must be done with extreme caution.
Shelly vs. Brock
Unlike Colt, Brock is a much easier opponent to deal with as long as the player knows how to dodge his rockets. Being unpredictable and tricking Brock into thinking that you’re going one direction when in fact you’re actually going the other is one of the best measures to take in order to survive his attacks.
Knowing when his super is ready and when he is about to use it is also really important, as this allows you time to move to the back quickly.
To take Brock down, the only trick needed to be done is to safely get really close to him and fire at him in rapid successions. Shotguns always win against rockets in close range situations, which means Brock can be easily defeated with careful use of techniques.
Shelly vs. Jessie
In showdown mode, taking on Jessie is no big problem for Shelly. Problem is, she is almost always encountered in non-showdown modes — where she turns into a vile, difficult to confront brawler with an impossible super.
The best way to deal with Jessie in these situations is to defeat her with numbers through teamwork. Jessie’s turret effectively works as a fourth member of her team, and dealing with her turret is an essential step in order to defeat her.
Shelly vs. Nita
Dealing with Nita shouldn’t be much of a problem as long as her Big Baby Bear is dealt with properly. The trick is to make sure that her bear is unable to deal any damage on Shelly, as these damages only charges Nita’s super as they accumulate. Taking out Nita’s Big Baby Bear is the main goal and the first step towards her defeat, and the execution of which can be done either in short range or in long range.
Shelly vs. Dynamike
Dynamike, although not really that easy to deal with, isn’t exactly hard to defeat, either. Because Shelly does not have the ability to chase Dynamike to his death, the trick in winning against this brawler is to seize every opportunity Shelly gets whenever Dynamike is poorly positioned. This means getting in a range not too far from him and shooting him with the shotgun until he’s taken his last breath.
Shelly vs. El Primo
El Primo used to be one of the fiercest and most feared brawler in Brawl Stars, but recent developments have toned down his capabilities a bit. In defeating El Primo, the trick is to make sure that Shelly maintains a safe distance from him — neither too far nor too close — a distance safe enough to fire shots that could deal him fatal blows.
Shelly vs. Bull
Bull may not be the easiest brawler to deal with, but with a little bit of luck, the right strategies, timing, and position, taking him out can be relatively easy.
Shelly may have better range and super than he does, but it’s undeniable that Bull has more health and damage — which, in unfortunate situations, actually make him a lot ‘sturdier’ than dear Shelly.
Letting Shelly out in the open and in close contact with Bull is practically the same thing as feeding her to the lions — it’s wrong and just downright cruel.
The best thing to do would be to try and poke Bull from afar, making sure that Shelly’s super is ready, and then bombarding him with it as he tries to get close. The most crucial part in getting Shelly ahead of Bull in the game is to make sure that all her advantages against him are used to the fullest extent — especially when it comes to range.
Shelly vs. Ricochet
Ricochet shouldn’t really be much of a problem for Shelly — except for the fact that his bullets actually ricochet, which means these things put Shelly in a lot more danger than she normally would be had it been other brawlers that she was against with.
But the thing is, Ricochet‘s bullets actually only ricochet between two walls — which means Shelly would be a whole lot safer if she wasn’t in a narrow area where Rick can take advantage of the two walls around her.
The good old hide ‘n gank move has been proven to be most effective against Ricochet, Shelly need only make sure that she eliminates Rick even before another of the enemies try to come at her.
Shelly vs. Barley
There obviously are a lot of brawlers that Shelly can take out pretty easily — but Barley just isn’t one one of them.
For Shelly to actually defeat Barley, she will need to enlist the help of her teammates — and whenever possible, let them take him out instead.
But just in case Shelly runs out of luck and ends up needing to confront Barley herself, the best thing she could actually do is to get as close to him as she possibly can and kill him with her buckshot. Extreme caution must be taken if this is the case, however, as Barley’s ultimate is extremely damaging and nearly impossible for Shelly to dodge.
Shelly vs. Poco
Poco is basically one of the easiest, if not the easiest for Shelly to defeat among all her possible enemies and it’s highly recommended that Shelly take him out first before turning her attention to anyone of her other opponents. Poco can easily be taken care of even in mid-range but it’s best for Shelly to get as close to him as possible in order to make full use of her shotgun’s firepower — which works best at close range.
Shelly vs. Mortis
In fighting Mortis, Shelly only needs to be as aggressive as she can get and basically shower Mortis with her firepower. Spamming Mortis with Shelly’s shotgun with a quick follow-up of her super usually does the trick quickly.
Shelly vs. Bo
Finding a way to eliminate Bo can be a little tricky, and if players are not careful, Shelly can actually be in grave danger. Taking the long route is usually the safest, as the shortest routes to where Bo is being usually the ones rigged with mines. It’s also best to have a tank ready to trigger Bo’s traps. Once the path is cleared, Shelly can come at him with as much firepower as she can possibly muster. But if all else fails, waging a guerilla warfare can usually do the trick.
Shelly vs. Spike
Spike isn’t someone easy to take on for Shelly. Whenever possible, it would be best to have other teammates like Bull or El Primo take him on instead. But if Shelly must confront Spike herself, her best bet would be to get as close to him as she possibly can, and take him out as fast as she can.
Shelly vs. Crow
Notwithstanding Crow’s being a legendary character, this brawler is one of the hardest for Shelly to take on. It is highly recommended that players let Shelly’s other teammates deal with Crow instead, but if she must do so herself, her best chance would be to take a block as a shield and get as close to him as she possibly can, while giving him everything she’s got.
